I love animals, a lot. Now, I’m not a card carrying member of PETA, though I really feel that their message is good, just their methodology is a bit…extreme for me. I’m kind of miffed about something.

You see, Troy Lee Gentry of country group Montgomery Gentry has gotten off with what is a tiny fine, I’m sure, to him. With shooting a captive bear, that was domesticated enough such that IT HAD A NAME, and then falsely claiming it to have been shot in the wild. Yes, my Dad hunts. Yes, I give him a hard time about killing woodland creatures when there’s perfectly good meat at the grocery stores to purchase. Yes, he explains to me about how legitimate hunters help to keep animal populations down so they don’t starve in the winter and how they help fund the wildlife preserves…etc. and blah blah blah. But the thing that made me angry about Mr. Gentry getting off so easily…is the knowledge that even though I definately won’t ever spend a dime on his music because of this, I never have previously so he’s not missing out on much, that his legions of fans will for the most part, continue to give this coward their money so he can pay his next $15,000 fine.

If he went out into the woods and some actual WILD bear hunted him down and killed him, just for sport…it would be some tragedy. But what about poor Cubby? That’s a bigger tragedy in my opinion, he didn’t have a sporting chance. I hope they throw the book at the weenie that arranged for all of this to happen. Actually, what I wish could happen, is for the bears to get their due. Alas, that would be to barBEARic…huh? Grrrrr.
