Bye, Bye 2006! Helllllooooo 2007!

It’s hard to believe that exactly 1 year ago today, my family was enjoying a fun filled day at Epcot among what seemed like a million other people.

Doing the Robot:

Not that I'd Ever Want to Embarrass the Kids

So much has happened this year, and it went by so fast. I see the speed at which time is seeming to accelerate as a sign of my aging. When you’re really young, you never believe people that tell you that the older you get, the faster it goes. But my how it does.

Those of you who’ve come to know me this year, know that we’ve moved from the Midwest (Illinois) to the Southeast (Myrtle Beach). We’d known about the possibiliy of this move for quite some time, but the plans took nearly a year to nail down. So we spent most of 2006 in a rented duplex that was about 2000 sqft smaller than the house we were in previously. OUCH! We took two trips out to Myrtle Beach to search for a home, and we nearly had heart attacks to find out that the houses here roughly cost $100K more than the same house would in Springfield, IL. We found one, and purchased it, joking (or maybe not so joking) that it would contribute to our retirement later if it continues to appreciate as it had been. The RE market started it’s downturn the second we closed, of course. The median house price rose from approx $180K to $240-250K in one year’s time. We were on the wrong end of the year that happened in. Go figure. ::chews a Tums::

A month after we got here, and 2 weeks after we closed on the house, Ken had a heart scare and spent the night in the hospital. That was fun. Don’t get alarmed, apparently esophageal spasms due to acid reflux has the same symptoms as a heart attack. Isn’t that special? ::hands Ken a Tums:: (Tums really should be sponsoring an ad on my site, they certainly get enough of our money! ;) )

Ashlyn started her new school, and at my insistence tried out for the golf team. She made it on, and hopefully will get to play in the matches next year with a little improvement. The team went on to win the State Championships for their division and one of her teammates won the State Individual Championship. These girls are good, shooting in the 30s for 9 holes. Ashlyn accomplished with flying colors my only goal in having her go out for the team, she made some good friends. And, she got to play golf on one of the nicest courses in Myrtle Beach for free! Can’t beat that with a stick! ;)

In the middle of the move, I started this blog. It’s been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. I’ve met some really cool people and some cool cats too (who knew they were such talented bloggers?), at the risk of missing someone, I won’t list names - you know who you are. Yes, you! I’ve saved some money on therapy and will save even more. And I got to make my hubby feel good, and be loathed at the same time by men across the Milky Way, by patting him on the head for all the ‘net to see for his great Anniversary present. Sorry, Daddy Forever for mentioning it again! It was a fluke, I tell you!

All in all, this has been a busy year, with lots of changes. We still have a ton of work to do in our new home but it’ll get done, eventually. The cats are adjusting, and loving their new screen porch Yes, the cat’s porch was one of the deciding factors in the purchase of this house. I’m hoping that we’ll get around to getting some porch furniture this year so we can enjoy it too. Voluntarily going outside in December is taking some getting used to.

Coming up for 2007? A new puppy, into the fray. Hopefully a job for me. Ashlyn’s Senior Year in High School ::sobs::. The last year of my 30s. Let’s hope it’s true that the 40s are the new 30s. I wonder what else the year will hold?

I hope for all of us, and all of you, that we have the Happiest, Healthiest and Most Prosperous New Year. Don’t forget to eat your black-eyed peas and your mochi for good luck in the coming year! (Does it show that I’m both Southern AND Japanese? LOL)

I leave you with a cool picture from last year’s celebration in Japan at Epcot. This year, we’re doing the at home with Dick Clark thing, not as exciting. If you’re going out tonight, please be careful, there’s a lot of newbs out on the road.

Since I’ve only come across your blog in the last few months, this recap was great! And yes, I can tell you first hand that being in your 40s is a great thing. Age is all in the mind. I still act like I’m in my 20s (or so DH says).

Hope you and your family have a wonderful and safe New Year.

Man, that looks like it was a lot of fun! I agree, time is going way too fast now.

Want to kill some time? You’re it!

I’m a newbie to your blog (the last few weeks), so I also appreciated your recap. I hope your wishes for the new year come true (and I cannot believe that you are only in your 30s!!!!). And, yes, life is definitely better in the 40s.

    Happy New Year!

Happy New Year and thank you SO much for the sweet e-card!! It was so much fun to find it in my e-mail inbox.

Great pics of EPCOT Center. They really bring back memories of the many Christmases I have celebrated there. My parents and I would have gone over there this year but I wouldn’t have been able to go on a lot of the rides :( Maybe next year with BabyBoy. Anyway, I wish you all the best in 2007!!!

*hugs!!!!* Thankyou for the e-card! And I feel so blessed to have met you :) I hope you have a wonderful year and enjoy every minute of it!

  9. Daddy Forever Says:

After visiting your blog, the wife handed me a list of stuff she wanted from a site called La Mer. How can lotion and creme be so expensive?

Thanks for e-card, but I’m still going to forward the La Mer bill to your husband.
