tiggerprr takes on American Idol Top 10 Boys

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

The (mostly) suckfest continued this week with me wondering a lot of times if the judges were hearing the same performances I did. Here’s how I felt:

1) Phil Stacey – “Missing You” by John Waite – I actually think this guy has a great voice but it’s like he’s afraid to really sing until the last two lines of his songs. He’s got to get over this or become like Ace Young did for me last year. Starts out pretty strong, and initially thought to be a contender to being a “what could have been” in my eyes. Also, the tempo was a smidge too fast so it felt, to me, like he was sort of racing through the song.

(tiggerprr side note: God help any of these boys if they start trying to do the Constantine creepy eyes at the camera thing. I liked Constantine except for that stuff, that’s just creepy…and weird!)

2) Jared Cotter – “Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye – I agree with Bond’s assessment that Jared’s voice is a little high for this song, it needs to be nearly growled IMO. I like him though. Just needs to do something more.

3) AJ Tabaldo – “Feelin’ Good” by a host of people since the dinosaurs roamed the earth including Michael Buble – Is it just me, or are these people treating tonight like it’s “Songs from Previous Lifetimes” theme night? While he was pleasant enough…it wasn’t great to me. At all. Yet, the judges praised the crap out of him? I’m just waiting for Simon to say “Well, it’s not that you’re good, it’s that you suck the least.”

4) Sanjaya Malakar – Ugh, send this kid home. Period. Oh, and I loved how last week he said he got his GED so he doesn’t have to worry about school anymore. I assume that his parents let him do that so he would be able to do Idol without having to do the school tutoring thing they have to have the school age contestants do. Ummm…WTH kind of parent allows their kid to get a lesser HS credential(I don’t care what malarky anyone tries to sell you – I am in HR, GEDs are viewed as lesser than a full HS diploma in the “real” world.) because of a reality show when their kid is honestly not talented enough to win the thing. You can kid yourself and you can lie to your kids, but you know…deep down you know if they really have a shot or not. BTW, I’m being honest here, sure the kid is a cutie pie with nice doey brown eyes…but this isn’t a pageant.

5. Chris Sligh – “Trouble” by Ray LaMontagne – First, let me join Bond in expressing my shock that this guy is married. ::GASP:: OK, whew that’s over with. Ummm, this guy totally reminds me of pre-weight loss Jack Osborne, without the British accent and profanity laden speech. It’s hard to get past that; however… this guy can sing, or is it that he sucks less than most of the others? I digress. I don’t know why people don’t learn from previous seasons….I would NEVER do a song any other contestant did, particularly last year’s winner.

6. Nick Pedro – “Fever” by countless artists also since the time of the dinosaurs – OK, I think Nick has potential to do some good singing. But WTH is with the song choices so far? Pullllease!

7. Blake Lewis – “Virtual Insanity” by Jamaroqui – I really want to hate this guy. I hate beatboxing a LOT. But I cannot deny, I love it when he sings. He tossed in some beatboxing with a bit of scatting…I cringed, but it was over in a second and I loved the rest of the song. To me, his was the best of the night. I’d still be ok if he never beatboxed again…but those dang judges…they keep encouraging it!

8. Brandon Rogers – Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper – Umm one of my favorite songs ever. His performance was fine to me…but not spectactular. I really like Brandon, I think he’s got some awesome potential to wow me. I wish he’d get on with it. I know he can.

9. Chris Richardson – “Geek in the Pink” by Jason Mraz – Never heard of this song before. The title makes me think of Skeezix the Cat rather than pay attention to him. This guy needs a boyband. He’s one of the best of the boys, but IMO nothing special.

10. Sundance Head – Mustang Sally by Countless people – most memorable to me, is Hootie and the Blowfish during encores at their concerts – Ummm…as I said in comments on Bond’s blog, any jackass can get up there and sing “Ride, Sally, Ride” over, and over, and over, and over. I need to hear more of a song than that and 1 or two sentences…I don’t like him. Not. At. All.

tiggerprr’s predictions of who’s going home??
Should go home:Sanjaya Malakar and Sundance Head
Will Go Home:Sanjaya Malakar and either Nick Pedro or Jared Cotter. Unless the speed dialing bubblehead girls vote like mad for Sanjaya’s doey eyes…then I’d say Nick and Jared will be going “Home”.

So…here’s what I think will happen…there’s a couple ok folks…but for the most part…when the Top 24 becomes the top 12…we’re going to see a lot of boys going home in the first few weeks.

Thoughts and Prayers for a Friend…

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

I was bouncing on Bond’s Big Leather Couch and I read that our good friend Desert Songbird is in the hospital! For those of you who don’t know her, this very special person and great friend has a life-threatening illness and so hearing she is in the hospital is very upsetting. I hope that she gets to feeling better soon!

If you’d like to go visit her to send her well wishes and words of support, I’m sure she’d appreciate it.

Get well soon Desert Songbird! :)

Ashlyn Update…Because I Know the World Waits With Baited Breath!

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

To those who don’t read my 24 spoiler posts so as not to be spoiled or who don’t visit my Project 365 photoblog, Ashlyn’s injury escaped you! I’m sorry for that little bit of confusion! That link is the back story. Here’s the update as of today.

She awoke in major pain and asked me if she could stay home. I had talked with her Coach last night and she suggested we go ahead and get her in to see an Orthopaedic doctor since the swelling hadn’t subsided. It’s much less swollen, but still swollen nonetheless. I was lucky enough to get her in to see someone today. It appears that it might be an ACL tear . If that’s the case, it’s likely surgery. I’m hoping not but she has all of the symptoms so I’m preparing in my mind for the worst. We’ll have to see.

I had spoken with her school trainer earlier in the day, and she stated that the orthopaedic group that I was taking Ashlyn to is on the conservative side so I might have to push them to do an MRI sooner than later. Upon hearing Ashlyn’s description of the injury and briefly examining her, the doctor got her in immediately for an MRI. Of course, after talking with the trainer, him ordering the MRI so urgently, also indicating that if there were any troubles getting her in today or tomorrow morning that he’d personally call to get it scheduled, is a bit troubling to me.

I’m trying really hard not to worry. But the bottom line is, I am worried. And I’m of course, second guessing myself for following the rest for the weekend instructions that the school’s athletic trainer advised instead of just taking her in. Had I known there was an audible “pop” when the injury occurred, we’d have been at some doctor on Saturday for sure. I guess I can “woulda, coulda, shoulda” myself to death on this one. I just hope that she is able to get some relief soon.

::sigh:: Crap happens.

All this stuff going on with poor dead Anna Nicole Smith and where to bury her. I’m thinking, if these people really loved her at all, any of them…they’d know that she’d want to be laid to rest near her son. I can see that, and I certainly don’t know her. As for what I think of her family and the people she surrounded herself with, I think she’s in a far better place now. With the exception of maybe that Larry Birkhead. I don’t know. It’s just a freaking circus though, isn’t it?

Ashlyn is hurting very much after troopering through school yesterday. I’ve gotten her into the orthopaedic doctor this afternoon, let’s hope for the best and a speedy recovery. It sucks that I had to miss work my very first week there, but she’s my number one priority and I told them she is my priority when I first met with them. So there you have it. You can’t pick when accidents strike, can you? Please keep her in your thoughts and send her some healing vibes/prayers/juju or whatever it is that you do when you’re asking for unearthly help. :) I will say that OC is quite pleased that there are people in the house today, I think our absence has confused him, he’s been really clingy at night when I go to bed and he’s laying across my left arm as I type this.

So Ashlyn and I went to get hair cuts and our brows done yesterday after I picked her up from school (yes, I feel bad that I didn’t just make her go sit on the couch knowing what I know today). I wasn’t able to get appointments for us for an entire month out at the local foofoo salon (which I do like to go to, your hair is something that you really shouldn’t skimp on IMO). Well I really needed a cut, as my hair was over halfway down my back and it’s hard to maintain professionalism like that, and well Ashlyn…she’s 17 and likes to change her look. Well…they cut a foot off my hair it seems (more like 10 inches – in little chunks so it can’t even be donated to Locks of Love :( )…and it’s not quite the way I wanted it, and certainly shorter than I did. But it’ll be ok I guess. There’s still plenty to work with as it’s still below my shoulders. Ashlyn is totally having haircut remorse, they cut quite a bit off hers too, but she is remorseful because she told them to do it. I keep telling her she regrets it every time she does that. LOL Our eyebrows…mine are fine..but hers…well she’s not happy with them. I think they look ok, but she thinks they are too thin. But…Ashlyn learned a valuable life lesson today about patience and haircuts/eyebrow waxing. It may take a month to get into the foofoo salon, and you may pay out the wazoo, but some things are worth a wait and in some matters, you get what you pay for. We’re trying to take a picture for our Project 365, but we’re not happy with them so far. We’ll see. It doesn’t help that she’s couch ridden.

Maybe I should have been eeyoreprr instead of tiggerprr?
