Thursday Thirteen Ed. 22/80

Thirteen of tiggerprr’s Favorite Restaurants

1. Bob Chinn’s Crabhouse in Wheeling, IL. You may be thinking, “But tiggerprr, you hate seafood!” I do, I do! But this place has WAY yummy steaks! And apparently the seafood is great too as it is flown in fresh daily and they display the bills of lading (shipping receipts) prominently for their guests to see. Their shoyu sprouts are to die for and the bread with garlic olive oil dipping sauce, OMG. Yum-o!
2. Giardano’s Pizza in Chicago, IL. Oh. My. Heck. I am not a big fan of thick pizza, but good God this pizza is…divine.
3. PF Chang’s China Bistro – Anywhere you can find one, it’s a chain. I was sad to move away from the St. Louis area so soon after they built one next to the Galleria Mall (that incidentally housed MY Godiva store – their sales plummeted when I left, I just know it.). Their food is delish, the atmosphere is romantic and their prices reasonable for the ambiance that you’re getting.
4. Round Table Pizza – again a chain, anywhere, usually in the Southwest and Cali. My favorite pizza, ever.
5. Town House Pizza and Lounge in Sioux City, IA. This is hubby’s favorite pizza ever and I have to admit, it’s yummy as heck! I am sensing a pizza trend. Ever since we left Iowa, we’ve been on the hunt for pizza that will even come close to Town House and we’ve not found it. We’ve eaten a lot of pizzas along the way.
6. Whataburger – Oh how I miss you, Whataburger with cheese and fries. And the Justaburger with Cheese and Fries when I just needed a little something. And the breakfast burritos. YUM!
7. Souplantation – Lest you think that all I eat are steaks, pizza and burgers. Here’s a yummy soup and salad bar place. But OMG, it’s freaking huge and fresh, and their baked goods. Wow!
8. Claim Jumper – It’s just obscene the amount of food they give you. Their Chicken Fried Steak (which I love!) is as big as your head. You can seriously get at least 2-3 meals out of one dish.
9. Five Guys – Holy Cow! These burgers are literally finger licking good. And a “regular” order of fries is enough to feed our family of three little piggies. These top In-N-Out Burgers for me, which are also good but won’t get a line item of their own now.
10. Wong’s Chinese Restaurant on Westheimer in Houston, Texas. Peter Wong manages (or did 13 years ago) this family owned chinese restaurant. I moved away once for an entire year, and he not only remembered me, but remembered my “usual”. I like to think it was because it represents their great service, moreso than the fact that I ate there at least once a week when I lived in Houston. Their food is the best chinese food I have EVER had.
11. TGIFridays – Four words. Sizzling Chicken and Cheese.
12. Redamak’s in New Buffalo, MI. These burgers are wonderful and they have a squillion appetizers. Instead of sliced cheese, they use Velveeta. Do you really need any other reason to go?
13. Mi Tierra Restaurant and Bakery found at El Mercado in San Antonio, TX. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant on Planet Earth. Their Carne Guisada, is like heaven in a tortilla. I am certain that the other food is great, but I couldn’t testify since I have never strayed from my favorite. My first husband and my in-laws used to take weekend trips to San Antonio from Houston SOLELY for the purpose of eating at this restaurant. There’s also cool shopping to do in El Mercado (Market Square) to walk off the food coma that you’re sure to start feeling. I saw Ryan Seacrest interviewing Eva Longoria on TV and she took him to eat at this restaurant. I got misty almost and actually called my ex to tell him to watch it. It’s THAT good, folks. LOL

Have I made you hungry? I sure have made me hungry!

  2. Mary (Mert) Says:

YES! Now I am famished! That’s ok, I just made homemade cinny rolls. want some? :O) Happy 13!

  3. Kim Priestap Says:

Your list sounds wonderful! I have heard very good things about PF Chang’s.

    My list is up, too.

  4. Christine Says:

I’d love to go to PFChangs. My husband and I love to go to TGIF’s and RoundTable when it was around.
My ex was from Chicago and whenever we’d go out for Pizza, that’s all he would talk about was Giardano’s. How funny is that!!
Now it’s lunchtime and your list has got me really hungry for some Potatoe Skins!!

    Happy Thursday! :P

  5. Christina Says:

Great list! Five Guys burgers are yummmmmmmmmmy. I had never tried them before I came to NC. I am with you on the fries. I ordered the smaller size the first time I went and when I got them I thought “Wow, this is enough fries to feed a family of five!!”

  6. katkat Says:

Ok, now I really want pizza for dinner. Happy TT!

  7. MamaDuck Says:

Oh, you have indeed!! Here we have a great place called Pei-Wei which is like a P.F. Changs lite (owned by P.F. Changs) – just as tasty but much cheaper ;) . Now I want that and a nice Jack Daniel’s burger from TGIFridays ;) .

  8. yoshi Says:

Your list is pretty dead on. although I can’t believe i haven’t been to a few of those places. I’ll add a few for you:

Erio’s pizza in St. Louis, MO. This is how pizza should be. I love it. Classic Pizza, almost mafia style. hehe

Kreiger’s in St. Louis, MO. classic local taste, family fun, with the greatest seasoned streak fries I’ve ever had.

Ted Drewes Frozen Custard, St. Louis MO. You might have seen these guys on Alton Brown’s show, feeding on asphalt (or something to that effect). Best frozen custard/ice cream EVER.

Kazu’s Sushi, NJ. I think he’s in lakewood, NJ. not sure. I just want to say, he has the best sushi ever. And it’s not because he’s a good friend either. :P Everytime I go to NJ, I hit his place. He’s got all kind’s of japanese food. It rocks.

  9. Carey Says:

TGI Fridays is the only one that i have heard of on your list. I like the idea of a nice steak dinner. Great list. Happy TT.

  10. Bond Says:

    thanks, noiw i am starving…

  11. Justin Says:

I miss going to Whataburger. A friend and I used to eat at one of those every Labor Day weekend when we were in Destin, Florida. And yes, I am hungry now.

  12. Desert Songbird Says:

Geez, we have Whataburger here, but I gotta go outta my way to get to it, so I’ve only had it once or twice in the last ten years.

PF Changs? It’s okay, but you KNOW it’s Americanized Chinese, right? Pei Wei is their “lower end” chain, and there’s one a half mile from my house. Same taste, similar menu, lower prices. Come visit me and we’ll do lunch! I usually go there about once a month.

Claim Jumper – you’re right, those portion sizes are obscene!

Never been to Giardano’s but I love Gino’s East. It’s been years.

Just got back from a late night dinner and drinks with friends. Macayo’s Mexican – yum yum! If you live in my neck of the woods, you should check it out if you haven’t already!

  13. Brian Says:

    No Mention of Stobys????

    Brian

  14. Travis Says:

Steak, seafood, pizza, burgers, Mexican, Chinese…uhm…no Italian???

No – pizza does not qualify as Italian!!

  15. tiggerprr Says:

The Old Spaghetti Warehouse, yum! I actually LOVE italian food. But I ran out of spots on my list! :/

Brian – Stoby’s should have been on there, I thought of them as I was making the list mid-item, and then it slipped my feeble little mind. You haven’t had a pita taco, until you’ve had one from Stoby’s in Conway, AR! :) They are best eaten with friends. :)

  16. Domestic Geek Says:

Man, I haven’t been to any of those (even Friday’s) except Round Table pizza. We used to have those a loooong time ago in Colorado. Wait…I may have been to a Whataburger when I was in the south. Sorry I missed visiting last week, but I’m good because it’s not Thursday again yet, right?
