Week In Review, TV and Other Stuff…

So I haven’t been posting like I’d like… we all know that. :) There will be spoilers for this week’s 24 and American Idol ahead so turn back now, lest you be spoiled by me!

Let’s start back at Monday, shall we? 24. It was an ok episode, didn’t really have a whole lot of oomph for me until the end. Of course, I knew that Jack wasn’t a goner, but I figured that Rena Sofer (can’t remember her character’s name! UGH!) would show up and pop a cap in Papa Bauer. But nooooooo… it’s more interesting than that. President Logan? WTH? And you know the little “I love my country” theme that seems to permeate a lot of people’s motivations for the evil that they do sure does resonate, to me at least, through how I view today’s real world events. People are often motivated by what they think is right, or what they’ve been taught to believe anyway. But it sure doesn’t mean that it IS right, does it?

American Idol…Bond has a good recap at his Big Leather Couch so I won’t bother here! I will say that I really thought that Antonella Barba and Alaina Alexander should have gone home but…it’s so early in the game that they’ll be going home shortly. The men, were just Meh to me overall. That Chris Sligh guy, I thought oversang, yet the judges and apparently everyone else watching, heard something totally different than I did. Maybe the other ones just sucked that bad, I digress. I was very disappointed in Phil’s performance at the beginning. But he really pulled himself out of the hole mid-song for me. Any why, oh why, do people insist on being crappy to Simon? I think it makes them look worse than he does when he’s being critical. Yes, I’m talking to you Little Miss Multi-colored Hair. I don’t know about you, but at this stage in the game, I remember people by the nicknames I give them unless they’ve impressed me somehow, good or bad. Oh and Beatbox Guy, Blake, wow, he impressed me, he CAN sing. If he never beatboxed again on AI, it would please me just fine. That’s not singing and I think it sounds stupid IMO.

I got that job on Wednesday, I’ve already written about it so I won’t repeat the story.

Ashlyn hurt herself at her scrimmage track meet on Friday. She hyper-extended her knee and has been on the couch all weekend. Keeping her on the couch has been lots of fun…NOT.

Saturday, I spent a good portion of the day catching up on my Google Reader. I hope I didn’t miss anyone’s blog! :/ It felt like I read the whole blogosphere! LOL But it was nice to catch up on what everyone’s been doing. :)

And in between all of that…I’ve been on a quest…of epic proportions. But that’s fodder for another post.

I agree with you on the TV stuff. 24 was ok and we were expecting her to come in and shoot the dad. Didn’t see the bearded Logan (or former President Prissy Pants as we call him in our household) angle and were pleasantly surprised with that. I felt the same about Phil and Blake on the guys night on AI. Was surprised at so many of the girls who sang great. But I really thought Sangaya and Antonella should have gone. They didn’t sing great but must be pulling in the votes for their looks or something else.

I’m still trying to catch up with my Google Reader, so I’m envious you did. Hope Ashlyn feels better soon!

P.S. Waiting on the entry of “epic proportions” :)

I can’t watch 24; it freaks me out too much. I was happy with America’s vote…. I wanted the pretty ones to stay, even though they don’t deserve it — just for the makeup, hair and clothes…fun to watch! Aren’t I shallow!? But, the ARE talented — they had a bad night s’all.

    WoW strikes again!!

I’m sliding into spring and summer tv mode already. I’ve left 24 behind. For whatever reason, Studio 60 is stepping aside for some self-indulgent drivel called the Black Donnellys. So that leaves me with Heroes for my series tv watching.

I’ll watch Idol because of the amazing female talent - but it hasn’t really grabbed me. Dancing with the Stars comes back in March - woooooooo!! Yes I enjoy the dancing. Plus So You Think You Can Dance will be back after Idol.

Other than that, it’s the reading season for me!

  5. Daddy Forever Says:

Sorry to hear about Ashlyn. Hope she gets better before the marriage. Congrats on the job. Can’t believe you’re going to be working as a heart surgeon again after all these years.

Someday, I’ll begin watching 24. and I might catch this season of AmIdol.

Of course, now that you have a job, I don’t really have too many folks to chat with all day. what’s up with that.

I’m just so happy it’s Monday again and Jack will be there to help me enjoy it. While he’s finishing recording I’ll watch Heroes in hopes that they finally give us some meaningful answers, but mostly so I can fast forward all the commercials during 24. ;o)

    Hugs,
    Holly

I really like Simon and think he’s right on the money with his criticism. If the contestant can’t take it, then they shouldn’t audition. I’m sure the whole music industry is a rough place in the real world.

Sorry, to hear about Ashlyn. Hope she’s feeling better and off the couch soon!

Poor Yoshi, I bet he misses you!

  9. Bond Says:

I will not repeat my AI comments but ty for the plug…. I LOVE 24… and can not wait for tonight.. I was also shocked to see President Puke-face back

  10. Mary (Mert) Says:

I have so totally flaked on Idol this time around… I get a little burned out on it and skip a season… then watch again.

24, I hate to say it but we dropped the ball when it started years ago, BUT I am making up for it with Netflix and hope to be up to date by the time next season starts.

I am sorry to hear that your baby hurt herself. I hope her knee feels better soon.

IMO, you’re not missing much this year on AI, I am watching it out of habit more than actually thinking any of them are awesome. I didn’t even bother to vote last week which is highly unusual. 24’s seasons are pretty self contained and I think they do a good job of explaining overlap from other seasons. We didn’t even start watching it until Season 4 and were just fine. Of course, we went back and viewed the other seasons since we loved it so much.
