Help Settle a Near Decade Long Debate
“The Wedding Singer” starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Is it or is it not a chick flick???
Please, please, please post your thoughts. To be fair to my opponent husband, I won’t say which side of the fence I am on in this debate.
Thanks for your help!

Ouch. Tough call. It has all the qualities of a chick flick, but at the same time, it didn’t really alienate guys away from it..
Though, I can’t think of a better category to put it in, so chick flick it is.

… and for some reason, I had the wrong URL in my box when I left that comment lmao

Didn’t see it. Musical comedy?

Sorry – no vote here. I can’t stand Adam Sandler, so I haven’t seen the movie.

Hard to say. I never really liked it but my husband can watch it over and over.

I vote, yes, it is a chick flick.
Stopping in for the party! Nice to meet you!

Hmmmm… I have to go with NOT chick flick.

My husband and I both like it, but he’s a big Adam Sandler fan, and I’m a big Drew Barrymore fan, so we both like 50 First Dates too. I’m in the middle too!

it has chick flick moments, but since there is alot of Adam Sandler acting like a screwball, I would lean more towards it being a movie like Wedding Crashers as opposed to Music and Lyrics

so no its not a chick flick

That is a very hard question. Normally, I would say ANYTHING with Adam Sandler is NOT a chick flick. But I think this movie is the exception that proves the rule. So I say: Chick Flick.

Wedding Singer is a comedy movie about the 80′s. I would classify this movie as Comedy, and probably lean towards Romantic Comedy (which doesn’t necessarily mean a chick flick, but most of the time it is).
The classification of chick flick would come from the majority since this is not a real genre. It’s because of the majority. I think the majority of people would call this a chick flick really.
But remember this, movies like Rocky, which everyone will believe is a guy movie… Is essentially a Love story about a boxer. So does that make Rocky a chick flick?

I vote for chick flick.

Not a chick flick. My husband likes that movie probably even more than I do.

I’m leaning more towards chick flick. It’s funny enough for the guys to like, but at it’s heart it’s a love story. Love story = chick flick

I’m going to go with Not a Chick Flick. It’s an Adam Sandler movie — which is a genre unto itself!

Ehhh, I don’t know that I’d immediately think “chick flick” with this one, though like someone else said, it has lots of the same qualities. My brother likes this movie and he doesn’t generally like chick flicks, so…
It’s one of those I have to watch if it’s on TV though!

I don’t personally think it can be called a “Chick Flick†at all.
There are some elements, but it doesn’t have Meg Ryan crying over some pretty guy who is played by an actor who has never even dated a woman in real life.
Plus there is too much of Adam Sandler’s fun obnoxiousness for this film to be put in the same category as “The Notebook†or most of the movies like it.
Billy Idol even shows up!

I liked the movie, but it’s a chick flick. Drew is cute, but the chick would have been hotter if it was a guy’s movie. And I don’t remember anything getting blown up. A manly movie needs explosion and cool special effects.

I always say it is my favorite Romantic Comedy outside of Serendipity, but it is NOT a chick flick. I’m only saying this because I’m a guy.
Honestly, I don’t classify it as a chick flick because it’s not sappy enough, and I have lots of guy friends who love the movie.

You’ve obviously pointed out that the debate isn’t just between you and dh but the world at large. I’d say romantic comedy myself. Chick flick to me is a total tear jerker, emotional, drama, etc. and this was none of those for me.
