Idol Gives Back…and other things.

Personal to Desert Songbird: Why, yes…someone is home! (For a few minutes anyway, hehe.) :) See, I’m even posting!

So, along with a whole bunch of people, I watched last week’s “Idol Gives Back” special shows. I have to admit, that although I do feel compassion for the plight of those less fortunate than I am, I am not often moved to tears when it is not people in my own little community. In fact, I am more apt to get upset over the mistreatment or misfortunes that befall our furry friends than other humans. I’m not sure why, I’m not a mean person, I’m just wired that way. This special though, really struck all three of us and in fact, all three of us found ourselves wiping tears away and I know I heard sniffling. Seeing the softer side of Simon was sort of touching too. We voted for the first time this season, to help do our part to help give a little.

Homelessness and hunger are a much larger problem in our country than most people realize. What’s almost worse is how many “working homeless” people there are. I was shocked to learn when I lived in Springfield, IL that in a town of approximately 100,000 people, 400 people (mostly women and children) had no place to call home and either bounced from home to home of friends/relatives or vyed for one of the limited spaces in the various homeless shelters available to help them. It’s disturbing to me that families, who have jobs, can’t afford to pay for a roof over their heads. It affected my heart profoundly when I met with the director of one of those shelters to find out how serious the problem was in what was then the town I called home. I also realized that until I met her, I didn’t see the face of homelessness, aside from the one or two people I’d seen while driving through the “downtown” area. I now know, that even though I can’t always see it, no matter where I go, there is a homelessness problem. Don’t even get me started on hunger and the statistics of how many kids go to school hungry…

I never thought that American Idol would ever make me really think…but it sure did last week. How did it affect you if you watched it? Something to think about for sure, eh?

Woohoo!!!

Sanjaya is gone! Yayyyyyy! Though I am pleased as punch that he’s finally voted off, I did feel sorry for the little fella when he cried. Kind of.

Hubby didn’t like Blake this week, I did. He doesn’t really like Blake much at all. He doesn’t like Chris R. more. I don’t really care much for Chris..but there were certainly worse people.

I was thrilled with how Phil Stacy did. I’ve known from the beginning that boy could sing, and he finally put in a performance worthy of the talent I’ve always suspected he has.

Good week for me in Idolville.

Greetings Friends!

Ashlyn had her knee surgery on Friday and came out with flying colors. In fact, thanks to modern chemistry, her colors aren’t the only thing that’s flying, if you know what I mean. After a couple doses of “the good stuff” she looked up at hubby and I and simply said, with a big cheesy grin no less, “I feel good!” (I half expected her to hop up and do a little James Brown dance.)

She has a giant brace on her leg and we go back to the doctor tomorrow. I’ve got the week off from work if we need to use it, so I am hoping that I’ll get the chance to get back into the swing of posting and get out to see all of you that I’ve been missing for all this time.

American Idol…so happy that Princess Disney is gone…and while Sanjaya did sing well on his song, the creepy eye thing was, well…creepy.

24…I’m having a bit of trouble staying connected with the story this year, but it’s still great. Loooooove me some Jack Bauer. Yum.

I’ll be seeing you all this week, I promise! :)

Despite rumors to the contrary…I am still alive!

I’ve been watching AI, with disgust for the same reasons I was disgusted before. I love Blake a little more every week, and I’m hating myself for it a little bit more every week too but I do, I love Blake! There I said it. Still not voting. I know..I can’t bitch about Sanjaya being there if I don’t vote..but my vote doesn’t count anyway… ::coughcoughChrisDaughtrycoughcough:: but I’m not bitter.

I’ve been working my hiney off. I got a second job offer out of the blue to manage one, yes 1, Homeowner’s Association. I was thrilled, it would be cake job and fun! I accepted it…and then told my original (still temporary) job, I was quitting, the day after my manager had heart surgery. I gave my resignation to the Regional VP, she spilled the beans on her long term plans for me and asked me to rethink the matter over this past weekend. I did, and the career path at the original job can’t be denied. So I told her, that she clearly wishes for a committment from me, I want one from her in the form of a solid offer of permanent employment. She caved in. So in about a week or two at most, I’ll be formally employed, doing work I love to do with a good career path. Yay me.

How are all of you?

Ohhh oh, oh…just gotta add… WTH? Did Rosie O’Donnell go off her meds or something?
