Fast Food - Ohhhh the Horrors!

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

cheeseburger2.jpgNow, I’m not one that will argue that fast food, ie. McD’s, Burger King, and all of that ilk, are good for you. I’m simply not that dumb. However, I find crap like this to be annoying. Why? Because you have a choice.

You can choose not to order the Triple Yummy Heartstopping Burger of Death with Ginormous-size fries and the Big Bubba Pop (Yes, I said pop, because soda is what you put in your fridge to keep it smelling nice!). Or you can choose to order the Heartstoppers Super Duper Non-Value Meal and stick your foot one inch further into the grave.

Myself, I enjoy a yummy cheeseburger w/fries and a regular Coke. I can’t help myself. I always feel like crap after I eat them, but hey, I’d rather die because I enjoyed my food than to eat or drink chemicals (diet pop with whatever chemical of the day is en vogue). Everything should be within reason. That’s the problem, it’s not just the food choices that we make, it’s the sheer volume that we consume that is the problem. I must admit there are times where I WANT, no, NEEEEEEED that 42oz caffeine buzz in a cup just to make it through the day without just smacking someone.

But, is it really the responsiblity of the restaurant industry to limit people’s choices like some sort of food parent? I think not. If you can’t help yourself but to order the triple sized whatever you’re ordering, then isn’t that just a bit like natural selection taking you out of the gene pool a little bit earlier, thus strengthening it for the future?

What do you kind folks think? Is it the restaurant industry’s responsibility, or do you think you should be forced to wear the big girl/boy pants and police yourselves?

It’s Shark Week on the Discovery Channel!

Monday, July 30th, 2007

shark.jpgYay for Shark Week! It should be particularly sharky this week, since it’s the 20th anniversary edition. ::claps happily:: Those of you who know me, or have been reading for a while know what an irony this is.

I LOOOOOVE Shark Week. Alas, I fear sharks so much, I’ve only been in the ocean once since seeing Jaws at the theatres during first run. I was in first grade, WTF was my Dad thinkin’? They had to make me even take a shower for a solid week after that, baths were totally out. The one time I did go into the ocean, in Jamaica on my honeymoon with my 2nd hubby, I nearly hyperventilated just being in there swimming to the little pad thing we could lay on to tan. Getting me back to shore required a lot of work on his part, and some distraction, a school of tiny rays swam between us and shore which prompted him to scoot me in a different direction.

It’s sad really, my shark phobia. Though it had a profound effect on me, other than the obvious. I subscribe to the know thy enemy philosphy. So as a kid, I devoured every book I could get my mitts on about sharks. They are beautiful and intriguing animals. That does not mean I want to be shark food though. Totally killed my marine biologist career. I would have loved to work with dolphins and other sea life. But since I’m scared to go in the water…that pretty much rules my ass right out. ::sigh::

Maybe someday, someone can more effectively help get me over all that. I’m sure that it’ll have to involve a lobotomy though. hehe

It’s Never a Good Thing When…

Saturday, July 28th, 2007

your daughter calls you and the first words out of her mouth are, “Promise me you won’t get mad…”

Me: “Ummm… I can’t promise you that. What’s wrong?”

Sounds huge doesn’t it? She goes on to relate a story about her (nearly) 2 year old phone. Its display suddenly went black after she hung up, and taking the battery in and out didn’t make it restore to normal.

Me: Why would I get mad at that?
Her: I didn’t want you to think I did it on purpose.
Me (In my head: Picturing an Office Space printer bashing moment, only with her, and her phone.) We’ll have to have the techno guy (the hubby) look at that when you get home.

There for one moment, I had visions of her: in jail, pregnant or in a car wreck. Thank goodness it was only her cell phone display… hmmmm reverse psychology anyone? Naaaawww…

Friday’s Feast #153

Appetizer - Describe a toy you remember from your childhood.
I had this little plastic cow that I used to watch when I was in my crib falling asleep (Yes, I have baby memories.) I remember gnawing on his horns. Several years ago, my memory was corroborated by a photo my aunt gave me that was of me as a baby, in my crib, staring at the cow. :) If I weren’t such a lazy butt, I’d scan it and show you.

Soup - On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being highest) how observant are you?
10 of course, I’m a freaking genius. :P Actually, I drive people crazy with my level of attention to detail. I can usually remember what people were wearing when I met them, definitely their names and faces. It’s kind of insane actually. Maybe I should have myself checked out. ;)

Salad - Where would you rather be at this very moment?
That’s really an interesting question…the answer involves winning a lottery! ;)

Main Course - When was the last time you learned something new?
Yesterday, Yoshi taught me that F11 will toggle Full Screen in MSIE.

Dessert - Fill in the blank: I have ____________ but I haven’t ____________.

I have many things that I’d like to do but I haven’t done them yet.

My First Day of “Freedom”

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Well yesterday was my last day of work. The powers that be, decided that they couldn’t “afford” the 2 extra days of notice that I gave them. They can’t…because the office is overstaffed by 2 people. It’s too bad, because I was still working like I planned on retiring there, since that’s how I am. Their loss.

I went out last night with a (now, former) co-worker, the only person (besides the new temp they brought on prematurely) that I actually liked in the whole place. She runs a bar at a resort here at night and had a day off, so we went and hung out at the pool and sat in the hot tub unwinding. I smell like chlorine, and yes, I showered! It was a nice way to end the day, I was pretty relaxed when I got home. I needed that. Shes a hoot.

Usually when I leave a company, I feel even the tiniest bit of a loss. I feel nothing, absolutely nothing. I would say that this was definitely the right thing to do.

So to celebrate my first day of freedom, I had the pest control guy knocking on our door at 7:30am. So much for sleeping in. And I have a full day of buying cat food, shuffling Ashlyn off to various appointments… nope, I don’t see a day of rest in here anywhere. Do you? LOL
