tiggerprr’s Thoughts on Michael Vick

Well…I can’t totally post what I THINK about Michael Vick because my kids read my blog and there would be a string of expletives here that would make Richard Pryor blush. But, I am certain of a few things here…

1) He will not be given the punishment that is due to him. He’s copping a plea. I’m also certain of this because I didn’t think the maximum sentence was harsh enough to begin with (5 yrs and a $250k fine). I don’t understand why it’s necessary to offer him a plea bargain at this point. I think a quote from the awesome 80’s movie Heavy Metal sums up somewhat nicely how I feel about Mr. Vick:

Hanover Fiste: He’s nothing but a low-down, double-dealing, backstabbing, larcenous perverted worm! Hanging’s too good for him. Burning’s too good for him! He should be torn into little bitsy pieces and buried alive!

2) I know that there’s a special place in Hell reserved for him. But sadly, that won’t ease the suffering or pain of those animals that were forcibly thrown across the Rainbow Bridge.

3) I know that there’s a ton of sufferinng in store for him in this life or the next, karmically speaking. (Yes, I know I’ve covered two sets of religious beliefs here, but cut me some slack, I am half-Japanese and as such have two sets of families, one Buddhist, one Christian. I’m open minded to both and have an interesting theory about religion I might share with you all some day when I’m feeling brave.)

4) I find it hard to believe that there’s people who are so insensitive to the cruel and violent nature of what’s happened here because the victims were “just” dogs. I also don’t see why they say that if he wasn’t a celebrity, he wouldn’t be being punished at all. Though, I really want not to believe that’s even possible, it actually is probably possible. Special tiggerprr hurricane warning here: If you are of this camp that believes this, fine, I accept that you’re out there and have those feelings. But if you dare post one comment here in an inflammatory way towards me or others who feel the way we do, I WILL rip you a new one in ways you’ve not ever conceived of. Use the voice your mama tried to teach you and if you don’t have anything nice (or at least in a civil way) to say, say nothing at all.

THAT’S the real crime here. Life is life, regardless of whether it’s human or animal. Everything should be protected under the law. Those animals had feelings, those animals were scared, those animals were hurting and no one was there to speak for them. Certainly not Michael Vick. Until we recognize that all life has value and start to care about it…we’re in a downward spiral that will lead to our demise.

Yet, WE are the “civilized” ones and the animals are “savage”. I’m just sad and disgusted.

EDITED TO ADD: You have got to eff-ing be kidding me.

This is part of what RL White the head of the Atlanta Chapter of the NAACP had to say:

“In some instances, I believe Michael Vick has received more negative press than if he would’ve killed a human being,” White said. “The way he is being persecuted, he wouldn’t have been persecuted that much had he killed somebody.”

My husband said it very eloquently: If he’d have killed people the way that he murdered those dogs… he’d be in the league of Jeffery Dahmer or a Hannibal Lecter. I totally agree.

For those of us who don’t really follow some news nor know who the hell michael vick is, what did he do to the dog again?

and yeah, doing anything to a dog he should be eye for an eye imho.

There isn’t enough of him to do eye for an eye, that’s the sad thing. It probably would have helped you out if I’d posted the link to the news article that made me finally break down and post. It’s there now.

    Vick is an idiot.
Vick is probably one of the stupidest men I have ever seen at least as an athlete, though Rae Carruth is stupider.
He copped to the crime, he will do some time, though maybe not as much as some people wish he would do.
He should not be punished for the rest of his life for it.

I don’t know about sports idiocy as I am a sports idiot, however; I understand where you’re coming from about not punishing him for the rest of his life. But isn’t it a bit sad that what he chose to do, punished those dogs for the entirety/rest of theirs?

For those who believe that dogs (or heaven forbid CATS!) are inferior to humans that should make it all the more important for them to treat dogs with love and respect. After all, I believe some great person once said “What you do to the least among you is what you do to me.” I’m sure I’m phrasing it badly but as the Right Paw of Bast, I really didn’t study Christianity too much…

I’ve neglected this news story after my husband gave me the gist of it. It just upsets me so. You are right - he likely won’t get the punishment that is due him, not now, but eventually. You reap what you sow and I’ve got to believe that he will.

Yes it is very sad. I am sick over the fact that I used to root for him and gave my oldest nephew a michael vick kids jersey when he was younger and Vick was the man. However, everyone in their life makes a mistake and Peta should not protest if in 3 years he is the 3rd string QB for the Raiders. He is not the devil, we have plenty of people who would be ahead of him on that list just in out own govt

    pssst Cheysuli its Bastet :)

    You’re both right, actually. :)

I agree, for what Vick did, he deserves more pirson time. However, I’m still amazed more people are upset with what Vick did than what Kobe Bryant did several years back when he raped a woman. I know, if Kobe did to the woman what Vick did to the dogs, people would be even more upset. But there was no one protesting at Nike over Kobe. No jail time served. And the victim was hounded and received death threats. I’m not siding with Vick or his supporters, but at least he’s going to prison.

As an owner of a beautiful German Shephard and an equally spiritied Mini-Schnauzer, I was really upset initially with Mr. Vick’s decisions. Then I thought that in some countries dogs are domesticated, farmed and eaten as food. Wow! Talk about terrible! Then I thought, what about the animals we in the U.S.A. domesticate, farm and eat. Who is standing up for the plight of the helpless chickens and cows…what about the pigs and turkeys? Yeah, yeah, I know what you are going to say…it was just a thought anyway.
