Truths

“Many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our point of view.” Obi-Wan Kenobi

I’ve actually been planning to write this post for a long time. I just haven’t been able to find the time to mentally sit still long enough to write it. I think that’s why I haven’t really been posting a lot lately. I have a ton of things on my mind, and it’s hard to sort a whirlwind out.

The above quote (yes, it’s from a Star Wars movie, suck it up) really is meaningful and poignant. I am surrounded by people and find them and myself in positions where each person’s “truth” is totally different than the other’s. Perception is reality. So if you believe that someone has wronged you, even if they haven’t, they really might as well have. But perhaps they didn’t, and you’ve not bothered to step inside their shoes for a moment to try to see their “truth” about the situation.

Maybe the next time we’re angry at someone because we believe they did something bad or wrong, we should try to take a step back and think first. The world might be a better place if we all did that from time to time.

I think that “Perception is reality” is a great idea to live by. It’d make us all a little more thoughtful of others.

I hope things are going okay for you.

Your post is timely given what my friend is experiencing now. Yes, perception is reality at times; this time around, unfortunately, this is a real and ugly tempest.

This is a timely post for me as well. So often we get wrapped in our own worlds, and we take offense or become hurt by something said or done. But we don’t take a moment to broaden our field of perception to include extenuating circumstances.

We need to stop and think, and remember that although something may have hurt us, it may not have been intentional and the offending party may not even know they’ve hurt us.

That is a great reminder. Sometimes when we’re so angry, we have a hard time seeing past it.

    get out of my head!

    LOL

Yes, this is a very poignant truth. On of my favorite posts is a story about point of view truths last year that shares the same concept with a little story. :) Hope you’re having a great week!

    Hugs,
    Holly

    What?

Well written post Tigg. As Desert said perception is reality these days. Seems that folks find it easier than actually thinking =(

There’s no shame in alluding to Star Wars. I do it (see the last paragraph).

Couldn’t agree more with your sentiments
I too have recently been experiencing a jumbled mind bordering on psychotic. Perhaps this has something to do with the time - of year - period in history - what we marvellous beings are doing to our planet - ourselves - our generation - future and past generations!
The recent reports on the war in Iraque are partially to blame for my current state of mind I Know!
I met a stranger the other day in a “drop -in” centre where I work. When I say “met” I handed him a cup of tea which in itself was miraculous. He went to war and returned completely transformed into a different kind of being. He cannot talk, fears other human beings even those once close to him. The terror in his eyes was unforgiving and reduced me to tears ( in private) He has no home, no friends and worst of all no soul!
This experience stirred my memory and heart to recall another man that I once vaguely new, my father
He returned from world war II comletely and utterly changed( or so my mother told me)
He was incapable of giving or receiving love, he never held any of his children or showed any emotion. It is only now following his death that I have come to terms with the truth, HIS TRUTH and that has allowed me to accept him WITH LOVE and to carry on with this life believing that it is not for us to judge others whatever situation we find ourselves in!
