Neil Diamond Night on American Idol…
All I can say is…
They better not effing tell any of them that they don’t sound contemporary enough. I mean really!? Neil Diamond? WTF
That is all….

Did I miss it? Or do I set my TiVo tonight? And who gets Sweet Caroline?

It was last night. But you can watch the results show tonight and they’ll have highlights.
David Archuleta got Sweet Caroline. I thought it was meh.
David Cook did really well I thought.

Neil Diamond? Why, oh Why in God’s name would they pick NEIL FRICKIN’ DIAMOND?!

I am finding David Archuleta to be sort of dull now–I mean he has a fantastic voice but he seems to set all his songs to the same type of tunes. He has been disappointing. We are starting to like David Cook though…
BTW: yes they did tell someone (I forget who) that it sounded old fashioned.

I think ND has quite a few songs that have a contemporary sound. David Cook found two of them and did very well.
But this show really needs to get these kids singing songs that doesn’t get the core audience rolling its eyes! Let’s hear the kind of records these kids would make.

@Travis that’s more my point. Neil, while he has certainly written a ton of good songs, isn’t burning up the charts and hasn’t had a Top 40 hit for 20+ years (I think it was in the 80s anyway). ITA agree that David Cook did very well.
I just think that if they’re going to lean on the “you don’t sound contemporary and “it was old fashioned” criticisms, they should at least find contemporary mentors or make the themes less restricting.
@Chey it was Syesha.
