You Need a License to Drive, Not to Have a Kid & Other Newsy Stuff

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

People never cease to amaze me with their stupid selfishness. I read a news article today about this pregnant woman in Illinois who decided to induce labor early so her husband wouldn’t be at risk of missing out on attending a Chicago Bears game for which he had tickets. I sure hope that baby doesn’t ruin his parent’s plans for a good night’s sleep or a quiet dinner out! What an inconvenience! Why people like that are blessed with children and people who would happlily miss a football game, and sacrifice many things they desire to love and feel the love of a child are not, is way beyond me. How ’bout you?

I would like to announce that I was not anywhere near Orlando when alleged kid smacking occured on Friday. It was my evil twin. hehe

“Father Says Tigger Smacked Son at Disney Park”

Seriously, I’ll be real curious to see how this comes out. I just can’t see that happening. Can you?

Today is World AIDS Day

Friday, December 1st, 2006

It’s amazing how far things have come since 1984-85 when I was in high school and this was a newly discovered “gay mans” disease. It amazed me more, how little I know about it, as I found out from taking the Reality Check Test at FRONTLINE: the age of AIDS. I only got 3 out of 13 questions right. I was astounded, because I like to think of myself as a well-informed, intelligent (no comments from the peanut gallery) person. So it would seem we, the general public, may have a lot more to learn about this devastating disease than we realize.

I do not personally know anyone with HIV or AIDS, but it makes me sad to think of anyone having to suffer from it. It’s disheartening that this disease can also be a divisive one, with those who ignorantly continue to think that it’s merely a gay man’s disease or that somehow those afflicted with it deserved what they got. It’s hard to believe that there’d be anyone out there who would still think that way, isn’t it? But you know there are. Shouldn’t we as human beings, simply care that there are others suffering from it, and all compassionately seek the keys to understand and cure this awful disease?

Please check out the sites I linked, and educate yourself. Even if you think you know all you should know, as I did. You probably aren’t as informed as you think.

OJ Gets Denied and Other News…

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

Well, well, well…I’m pleased to see that FOX has decided that it was ill-conceived to give OJ Simpson a forum to profit from the deaths of his ex-wife and her friend. However, it is a little disturbing that Denise Brown, Nicole’s sister, has now announced that the families were offered money ostensibly to keep quiet over the TV special and book. I just don’t know what to think about that one. I’d like to hope that FOX did the right thing, to do the right thing, and not because they saw that no profit could come from it or that it might hurt the other parts of their business. Alas, I don’t have a lot of faith in big corporations having giant moral compasses.

In other OMG news…Peter Jackson is unceremoniously dumped from “The Hobbit” project. New Line Cinema, I gotta say: Worst…Move…Ever.

And finally…I have had my head buried under the sand apparently. But Michael Richards, Seinfeld’s Kramer…What were you thinking?

I realize there’s probably more important news out there, but these are the things that caught my eye this morning. Now, I have to run off to the dentist…I cracked a toofer and we can’t have that just before Thanksgiving delights!

Oh, and in happier news….Chris Daughtry’s CD is released today…Go buy it! Shoo!!
